Advanced Sculpture: In our project we are working presently working on in class, we've taken a close look at Giacometti and how he simplifies his sculpture until it is almost unrecognizable. Look at another well known sculptor, François Auguste René Rodin and compare and contrast the two. What similarities did they have, where did they differ? How would you change your project if you would have to recreate it using Rodin's style?
Fundamentals of Art: Unit 2: Artists as Designers; Let's continue with creating our two-point perspective tree house. Using the following YouTube link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EWV-Ptqyl0) you can create the tree house step-by-step to your liking - you don't have to wait daily for my instructions! For creating a window, place a vertical line where you'd like the window side to be. From the top and bottom points of the line, use orthogonal lines to go back to either vanishing point. Add in another vertical line parallel to your first line that you drew in and you now have the side of your window. Repeat for the top, just make sure you are drawing in a horizontal line! Now you have completed your first window - do the same to create more windows & doors for your tree house. Continue to add another level to the house, or fill in with curtains or railings or decks to add to your tree house. Remember, you may work ahead at any time using the video on YouTube!

It's a bit different than Photoshop, but since you all have a background with the Photoshop program, it is very similar and you should be able to work with it to achieve similar effects.

Rembrandt and Van Gogh made dozens of self portraits, created at different times of their lives. Which type of portrait style do you prefer and why?

Monday, March 23
Advanced Sculpture: In our project we are working presently working on in class, we've taken a close look at Giacometti and how he simplifies his sculpture until it is almost unrecognizable. Look at another well known sculptor, François Auguste René Rodin and compare and contrast the two. What similarities did they have, where did they differ? How would you change your project if you would have to recreate it using Rodin's style?
Fundamentals of Art: Unit 2: Artists as Designers; Thinking back to our last day in class on Friday, I'd like you to recreate your tree and start of your two-point perspective tree house. We were creating it on a 12x18 size paper, but you can easily do this at home using a regular 9x12 piece of white paper. Remember, the tree was created by drawing two vertical lines, the start of the tree house was created by placing a vertical line between the two lines of the trees, then connecting the top and the bottom points of this vertical line to each of the two vanishing points on either side of the paper. Next draw in the sides using an additional 2 vertical parallel lines, using orthogonal lines create the bottom of the tree house. Round the bottom of the base of the tree where it enters the tree house by using a curved line instead of a straight line.

Look at these to get you started: Virginia Oldoini Countess of Castiglione (1837–1899), Frida Kahlo, and Mary Cassatt, self portraits by African-American artists such as Horace Pippin and Jacob Lawrence as well as portraits of famous people by Pop Artist Andy Warhol. Rembrandt and Van Gogh made dozens of self portraits, created at different times of their lives. Ask yourselves how do these artworks show similarities and differences?

Using the following YouTube link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EWV-Ptqyl0) you can create the tree house step-by-step to your liking - you don't have to wait daily for my instructions! Creating a ladder today, we are going to draw a vertical line to the left side of the side of your tree house - make it starting down by the bottom edge (like the ladder will be hanging from the tree house). Draw it down almost to the ground. Next take the ruler and lay it next to the line like you are measuring it - put little dots next to each inch mark and each 1/2 inch mark all the way down your line. Erase every other dot. Now you have a small line - this is the beginning of your rungs of your ladder. Take the top & bottom points of each line back to the vanishing point on the left side of the paper. Make a vertical line to create the ends (or sides). On some of them you will see that you need to create tops and bottoms - all you need to do is connect the points to the vanishing point on the left side of the paper, then to end the side, cross to the other vanishing point on the right side of the paper. The ladder rungs are now complete & it's time to work on adding the chains - we'll save that for tomorrow! Or, remember, you may work ahead at any time using the video on YouTube!

For creating a window, place a vertical line where you'd like the window side to be. From the top and bottom points of the line, use orthogonal lines to go back to either vanishing point. Add in another vertical line parallel to your first line that you drew in and you now have the side of your window. Repeat for the top, just make sure you are drawing in a horizontal line! Now you have completed your first window - do the same to create more windows & doors for your tree house. Or, remember, you may work ahead at any time using the video on YouTube!
